As stated, players can pre-load Battlefield 2042 from Tuesday, October 5, and it will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, PS4, PS5, and PC. During EA Play 2021, when the community-driven Battlefield Portal was introduced, developers DICE revealed Battlefield 2042’s open beta will take place in September. While no specific dates were announced, previous rumors indicated the open beta would happen on September 22. With Battlefield 2042 now being delayed, however, the beta had been pushed back to October. Hitting the nail on the head, credible leaker Tom Henderson claimed there will be an early access beta taking place on October 6, and an open beta kicking off on October 8. The dates were further backed by leaks from video sharing website Bilibili, stating that there will be Battlefield 2042 events from October 6 until October 9.
Battlefield 2042 open beta: What to expect
During the open beta, Battlefield fans will get a chance to try out the iconic big sandbox mode, Conquest. However, instead of taking over individual control points, the “action now centers around sectors consisting of several flags.” As for the map, expect to battle it out in Orbital. This is the map we’ve seen in recent trailers consisting of a rocket launch site, where players will be racing against time and other hostile conditions (we see tornadoes) around “an imminent rocket launch.” Players will also get to try out four Specialists, which boast unique perks and tools on the, well, battlefield. There’s Webster Mackay with a grappling hook, Maria Falck with an S21 Syrette Pistol for quick heals, Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky with an SG-36 Sentry Gun that automatically spots and engages enemies, and Wikus “Casper” Van Daele with an OV-P Recon Drone that spots targets and disorients enemies with EMP blasts. Recently, early feedback of Battlefield 2042 had been leaked, with early game testers claiming the game’s dynamic tornadoes can get “repetitive,” and even go as far as saying they ruin the “classic BF experience and flow of the map.” Fans will have their own thoughts once the open beta goes live on October 8, and even sooner for those who pre-ordered.
